Big Ideas,
Real Impact.
"Working The Gap (WTG) is an excellent opportunity for any CBO focused on positive community and youth development. Our organization, Manifesto Community Projects US INC., has placed several WTG members as Manifesto Mentors specializing in creative arts and wellness facilitation. They supported our youth at a DOE school in the Bronx and at the Administration for Children's Services (ACS) Children's Center. This improved the students' creative output and the youth's social-emotional learning experience. We saw immediate rapport-building and a bond with the youth that typically takes teachers months to develop; this happened in days. This program is effective because it trains young people to connect with their peers using a culturally responsive framework, combined with a peer-to-peer teaching and power-sharing approach." -Tamir Z. Glenaisa’s Journey
Before Working the Gap, Glenaisa was already showing up — volunteering with elderly neighbors through a service corps program and tending her community farm. She just hadn't yet found a way to turn that instinct into a future…
WTG gave her a supportive community, the confidence to apply to CUNY's Youth Studies program, and the skills to advocate for herself and other young people.
Now she's carrying that same commitment forward-staying active with the NYC Youth Agenda, pushing for affordable housing, and building toward a career helping young people succeed.
